Leicester City Parts Ways with Head Coach Steve Cooper
Leicester City Football Club has made the decision to terminate the contract of their head coach, Steve Cooper, following a 2-1 defeat to Chelsea managed by Enzo Maresca at the King Power Stadium. The loss marked Leicester’s sixth defeat of the current Premier League season, leaving them in 16th place after twelve matches with just two victories.
This development comes after a challenging start to the Premier League campaign for Cooper, who was appointed during the summer to replace Enzo Maresca. The club’s recent performances have failed to meet expectations, prompting the management to seek a new direction in an effort to secure their top-flight status, which they achieved through promotion last season.
In an official statement, Leicester City stated: «The Club has parted company with Steve Cooper, who leaves his position as First Team Manager with immediate effect. Assistant Manager Alan Tate and First Team Coach and Analyst Steve Rands have also left the Club. Steve, Alan, and Steve depart with our thanks for their contribution during their time with the Club and with our best wishes for the future.»
The club has appointed First Team Coach Ben Dawson to lead training sessions temporarily, with support from coaches Danny Alcock and Andy Hughes, while the search for a new manager commences. Leicester City aims to conclude this process swiftly to stabilize their squad for the remainder of the season.
This is the second consecutive season in which Steve Cooper has faced early dismissal, reflecting the pressures of managing a team in the competitive atmosphere of the Premier League.
