Lille Champions League Match

Lille has secured a spot in the league phase of the UEFA Champions League despite suffering a 2-1 loss to Slavia Prague in the second leg of their playoff match. Lille advanced with a 3-2 aggregate score.

Entering the return leg with a 2-0 advantage from the home match, Lille fell behind early when Slavia’s midfielder Christos Zafeiris scored a goal just five minutes into the game. Lille winger Edon Zhegrova managed to equalize in the second half, but substitute Ivan Schranz restored Slavia Prague’s lead in the 84th minute.

Other teams also joined Lille in the league-phase draw. Red Star Belgrade, the European champions of 1991, overturned a deficit against Norway’s Bodo/Glimt by winning 2-0 in the second leg, resulting in a 3-2 aggregate victory.

Bodo/Glimt had previously defeated Red Star 2-1 in Norway. However, Bruno Duarte’s penalty in the second leg equalized the tie, and Uros Spajic’s header gave Red Star the lead.

Slovak champions Slovan Bratislava secured their place by defeating Denmark’s Midtjylland 3-2 after drawing 1-1 in the first leg. Goals from Marko Tolic and Franculino Dju were crucial in the second leg.

Croatian champions Dinamo Zagreb achieved a 5-0 aggregate victory over Azerbaijan’s Qarabag with a 2-0 win in the second leg. Marko Pjaca was instrumental in the victory, scoring in both legs.

Additionally, teams such as Switzerland’s Young Boys, Czech champions Sparta Prague, and RB Salzburg confirmed their qualification on Tuesday. The draw for the 2024-25 Champions League league phase is scheduled for Thursday, with matches set to begin on September 17.
