Liverpool Striker Darwin Nunez Causes Stir by Removing Club-Related Photos from Instagram
Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez has sent shockwaves through the football community by removing all images related to Liverpool from his Instagram profile, leaving fans in a state of bewilderment.
The Reds returned to form with a victory over Tottenham on Sunday, yet attention quickly shifted to Nunez’s social media activity post-game.
Currently, the sole remaining Liverpool-related photo on Nunez’s Instagram page is his profile picture, featuring the back of his shirt bearing the name ‘Darwin’ and his squad number, nine.
His Instagram feed now primarily showcases moments with the national teams of Uruguay and Paraguay, interspersed with family snapshots.
Reacting to this move, fervent Liverpool supporters expressed astonishment, with one fan lamenting: ‘Darwin Nunez deleting all Liverpool related content on his Instagram is absolutely ridiculous. Why would you do that?’
Another fan emphasized the importance of backing players through thick and thin, asserting: ‘Online abuse or direct criticism is not acceptable, no matter what. You’ll Never Walk Alone, Darwin Nunez.’
Despite the criticism, recognizing Nunez’s significant price tag of £85 million, a third supporter highlighted the striker’s underwhelming performance since his arrival at Anfield from Benfica.
Nunez has struggled to find consistency in front of goal, managing 33 goals and 17 assists in 94 appearances, a return deemed modest given his valuation. Criticism has mounted, particularly regarding his profligacy in front of goal and propensity for being caught offside.
Notably, football icon Michael Owen recently suggested that Nunez could evolve into a dominant force in the Premier League post-Mo Salah‘s departure from Liverpool.
Following Nunez’s recent performance against Everton, where he failed to score, manager Klopp addressed the striker’s struggles, acknowledging the challenges of a forward’s life and the need to persist through goal droughts.
