LSU Football Team Faces Disappointment in Season Opener Against USC
In a surprising turn of events, the No. 13 LSU football team suffered a 27-20 defeat against No. 23 USC in the season opener held at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on Sunday night.
Head coach Brian Kelly expressed his displeasure with the team’s performance, stating for the first time during his tenure at LSU, he felt ‘pretty angry’ with the players’ lack of discipline.
Kelly attributed the loss to several critical penalties that significantly impacted the game. He noted that undisciplined personal fouls led to direct scoring opportunities for USC, contributing to the disappointing outcome.
The Tigers managed to hold a 17-13 lead entering the fourth quarter, but failed to maintain their advantage. A drive that could have shifted the momentum instead ended in a field goal, allowing USC to tie the game.
USC quarterback Miller Moss then orchestrated a successful two-minute drill resulting in a decisive touchdown run by running back Woody Marks, sealing the victory for the Trojans.
Despite having opportunities to secure the game, Kelly lamented a lack of control from his team, stating they struggled to put away their opponent when ahead.
LSU will look to regroup as they prepare to face Nicholls in their next matchup, hoping to improve their performance following this setback.
