Luka Doncic To Miss At Least a Week Due to Right Wrist Strain
Dallas Mavericks star player Luka Doncic is set to miss at least one week of games due to a right wrist sprain, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania. The information, disclosed on Thursday, follows medical evaluations conducted on Wednesday. Doncic will undergo rehabilitation treatment for his wrist and is expected to be reevaluated after sitting out upcoming matches.
The injury was first noticed during Tuesday’s game against an undisclosed opponent, where Doncic reportedly felt discomfort in the first quarter. Despite downplaying the severity of the injury post-game by stating it was «nothing serious,» medical staff deemed it necessary for the NBA player to rest and recover.
This is not the first instance of injury for Doncic in the current season. He previously missed a game due to a right knee bruise, returning to play against the New Orleans Pelicans. Before his wrist injury, Doncic was productive on court, averaging 28.2 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 7.8 assists per game this season. However, his shooting metrics have been a concern, with a field goal percentage of 43.5%, the lowest since his rookie year, and a 32.4% success rate from three-point range—the lowest since his sophomore season.
The Mavericks are facing a challenging season, standing at 8-7 in the Western Conference and currently 11th in the rankings. Doncic’s absence is a setback for the team, which reached the NBA Finals recently. Nevertheless, the Mavericks aim to navigate the next series of games without their leading player, starting with their match against the team’s Friday opponent.
