Luke Bryan, the renowned country musician and television personality, recently opened up about working alongside a new colleague on the judging panel for the upcoming season of the popular singing competition series, American Idol. At the Country Music Association Awards held in Nashville on November 20, Bryan spoke exclusively to E! News about Carrie Underwood‘s transition into her role as a judge.

Bryan commented on Underwood’s learning process, noting that while the ability to judge is not something that can be taught in a school, she is adapting well. «The thing about it is Carrie has to kind of learn in real time,» Bryan stated. «You kind of have to learn how to be a judge. It’s not like you can go to American Idol Judging School.»

He added that Underwood, who is familiar with the show’s dynamics as a former contestant, is doing an impressive job. «She went to American Idol Be A Contestant School,» Bryan remarked, alluding to her unique experience on the show. He also praised her interactions with the contestants, saying, «She’s awesome with the kids. She has the best soul and heart. She’s doing a great job and really settling into the judging table.»

However, Underwood herself has acknowledged that not all aspects of judging come easy to her. Particularly challenging is the task of rejecting young hopefuls. «When she has to say ‘No’ she’s like, ‘I don’t wanna tell them no,'» Bryan explained. Underwood echoed this sentiment in an interview in October, mentioning the difficulty in declining contestants who are eager to continue showcasing their talent. «Whenever anyone is saying ‘I can sing another one. I have this song and this song,'» said Underwood, «it’s worse because it’s still a ‘No.'»

Despite these challenges, Underwood expressed her enthusiasm for rejoining the American Idol family. «Everybody is so nice, it’s very pleasant working conditions here,» she noted. «It’s part of me, it’s part of my history. Hopefully, I can bring that into my advice for the people that are singing in front of us.»

The CMA Awards, held at the Bridgestone Arena, also featured Bryan as a host alongside other notable figures from the country music industry. The event was an opportunity for many stars, including Bryan and Underwood, to grace the red carpet.
