On a sunny Sunday morning, a magnitude 3.5 earthquake jolted several cities in Southern California, including Los Angeles, echoing memories of the historic 1906 earthquake that devastated San Francisco.
According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the seismic event originated in El Sereno, near South Pasadena, with tremors felt across the region, including the San Gabriel Valley and parts of L.A.
The quake struck at 9:55 a.m., causing brief concern but fortunately resulted in no immediate reports of damage or injuries in areas like Alhambra, South Pasadena, Monterey Park, and East Los Angeles.
Typically, the Los Angeles area experiences an average of five earthquakes ranging from magnitudes 3.0 to 4.0 per year, with this recent event occurring at a depth of 7.0 miles, leaving residents in the region contemplating their earthquake preparedness.
As news of the minor quake spread, the specter of the ‘Big One,’ a potential major earthquake in the region, looms large, prompting reminders from experts like Lucy Jones to stay alert and ready for any seismic activity.
