Maharashtra Bandh Protest

Several organizations and groups have called for a Bharat Bandh on August 21 to oppose the Supreme Court‘s ruling that excludes the ‘creamy layer’ from the SC/ST quota. This bandh has had significant effects in various states including Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, and Kerala.

In Maharashtra, a bandh is scheduled for tomorrow, August 24. The opposition alliance, known as the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), will participate in this bandh, as stated by Vijay Wadettiwar, the leader of opposition in the state assembly.

The upcoming bandh aims to protest against the alleged sexual assault of two young girls at a school in Badlapur, located in the Thane district. The protest serves to emphasize the importance of women’s safety and advocate for governmental action concerning the issue.

Vijay Wadettiwar, representing the Sena UBT, remarked that those who undermine the protests about the alleged assaults on the minor girls are either abnormal or protective of the perpetrators. This stance underscores the gravity of the situation and the urgent need for action from the authorities.

Two kindergarten students were reportedly sexually abused by staff members at their school in Badlapur last week. Following this incident, police apprehended a school attendant on August 17, further igniting public outrage in the area.

On August 22, the High Court took suo motu cognizance of the case involving the sexual assault of the two girls. The court was informed that a thorough investigation is being conducted from all angles, ensuring that no mistakes are made throughout the process.
