Mahindra has officially unveiled the long-awaited five-door variant of its popular Thar SUV, now branded as the Thar ROXX. This exciting new model is set to make its market debut in India on August 15, 2024, and is expected to compete directly with the Force Gurkha five-door among other rivals in the lifestyle SUV segment.

The Thar ROXX showcases an array of design enhancements that distinguish it from the original three-door version. Prominent features include circular LED daytime running lights, projector headlamps, and fog lamps along with a refreshed multi-slat grille. The design is further complemented by fender-mounted outside rear-view mirrors, dual-tone alloy wheels, a front camera, body-coloured rear door handles situated on the C-pillar, and stylish square LED taillights, which contribute to a more rugged and aggressive appearance.

One of the most notable aspects of the Thar ROXX is its versatility aimed at a range of consumers. Although Mahindra has yet to disclose full details about the interior, anticipations are high that the cabin will be equipped with modern features such as a panoramic sunroof—available as a single-pane unit on mid-spec variants—a larger touchscreen infotainment system, and advanced climate control technology. Additionally, it may also include amenities such as Adaptive Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), ventilated front seats, and cruise control.

Under the hood, the Thar ROXX is expected to provide a powerful performance, featuring engines that include a 2.0-litre mStallion turbo-petrol engine and a 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine. These powertrains will be available with both six-speed manual and a torque converter automatic gearbox, allowing drivers a mix of comfort and engagement.

As the vehicle is designed for both off-road enthusiasts and daily commuters, it comes equipped with options for either rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive systems—appealing to a diverse audience that enjoys adventure as well as practicality on city roads.

The anticipated price range for the Thar ROXX starts at approximately Rs. 15 lakh (ex-showroom), making it a competitive offering in its category. This strategic pricing aims to attract consumers looking for robust, off-road capabilities paired with the convenience of a spacious five-door layout.

Moreover, the Thar ROXX promises to incorporate significant safety features, with expectations of having up to six airbags, Electronic Stability Control, ABS with EBD, and various sensors for parking assistance. This emphasis on safety technology shows Mahindra’s commitment to ensuring that drivers and passengers alike can travel with peace of mind.

The reveal of the Thar ROXX comes at a time when consumer interest in practical yet adventurous vehicles continues to grow, particularly in markets where off-road capabilities are a significant part of lifestyle choices. By launching this five-door model, Mahindra aims to broaden its customer base while still honoring the rugged spirit that the Thar brand embodies.

As the launch date approaches, enthusiasts and potential buyers remain eager for further insights into the vehicle’s comprehensive features, design elements, and driving experience. With this new model, Mahindra seems poised to further solidify its position in the competitive SUV market, taking advantage of the unique blend of modern technology and classic off-road prowess that the Thar series is known for.
