Major Incident in Southport as Multiple People Stabbed
In a shocking turn of events, a serious stabbing incident took place in Southport, leaving at least eight people with injuries, including some children. Armed police were quick to respond to the scene, where a man was arrested with a knife.
The Merseyside police reported this as a ‘major incident,’ confirming multiple casualties were being treated by paramedics from the North West ambulance service. The injured were taken to various hospitals including Alder Hey children’s hospital and Aintree university hospital.
The chaos began around 11:50 AM on Hart Street, where emergency services received reports of the stabbings. Witnesses described hearing lots of sirens and even seeing an air ambulance land close by.
Residents shared their fears on local WhatsApp groups, with messages urging others to lock their windows and doors as they heard alarming reports of a man running around attacking people. One local woman expressed her terror, stating it was sickening to think such violence could happen in their community during the day.
Pictures from the scene showcased numerous police cars and ambulances as the area was cordoned off. The home secretary, Yvette Cooper, expressed her deep concern over the situation and shared her thoughts for the families affected.
Merseyside’s police and crime commissioner, Emily Spurrell, also voiced her distress regarding the incident, urging the public to avoid speculating online about the details of what happened.
