Multiple vehicles encountered tire failures on Highway 401 in Toronto this morning after a significant pothole emerged on the eastbound collector lanes near Yonge Street.

OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt stated that around 12 vehicles were affected, resulting in tire deflations and failures, catching drivers off guard.

Authorities contacted the Ministry of Transportation to address the damaged section of the roadway, leading to the temporary closure of the left lane as repairs were conducted.

Despite the challenging circumstances, all lanes have since been reopened to traffic on the highway.

An officer responding at the scene even experienced the pothole firsthand and was surprised to escape without a flat tire.

The incident caused significant traffic congestion in the eastbound lanes of Highway 401, near Yonge Street, before the situation was resolved.

The ongoing maintenance of infrastructure like highways remains a crucial task to ensure the safety of motorists and prevent such incidents from occurring.
