Manchester United Secure Signing of Joshua Zirkzee and Announce Coaching Staff Overhaul
Manchester United have finalized the acquisition of Bologna forward Joshua Zirkzee in a significant transfer deal worth over £35m. The agreement includes favorable payment terms that exceed Zirkzee’s release clause, ensuring a more structured payment plan over three years.
Zirkzee, who showcased impressive form with 12 goals and 7 assists during Bologna’s Champions League qualification season, has agreed on personal terms with United. The 23-year-old prodigy, having been part of the Netherlands squad at Euro 2024, is set to undergo medical evaluations this week before signing a five-year contract with a potential extension available.
The latest signing comes in tandem with a notable overhaul in Manchester United’s coaching staff, with renowned figures like Ruud van Nistelrooy and Rene Hake signing up for two-year contracts under the guidance of manager Erik ten Hag. The reshuffle also sees the retention of first-team coaches Steve McClaren and Darren Fletcher, while Mitchell van der Gaag and Benni McCarthy part ways with the club.
Simultaneously, the club announced the departure of Donny van de Beek to Girona in LaLiga. Van de Beek, who struggled to make an impact during his tenure at Old Trafford following a promising move from Ajax, embarks on a new challenge with Girona. The transfer deal is reported to involve an initial fee of £500k, with potential add-ons taking the total package to a substantial £7.6m.
Joshua Zirkzee’s journey from Bologna to Old Trafford sets the stage for a transformative period for Manchester United, who continue to revamp both their playing squad and coaching setup as they gear up for the next season, eyeing further success in domestic and European competitions.
