Manipulation of Blood Sample in Pune Porsche Crash Case Leads to Arrest of Hospital Doctors
The authorities in Pune have made a significant breakthrough in the investigation of the tragic Porsche crash involving a 17-year-old teenager by arresting two doctors from Sassoon General Hospital. The doctors, Dr. Ajay Taware and Dr. Shrihari Harnor, are accused of tampering with the blood sample of the young driver.
The fatal accident occurred in the Kalyani Nagar area, claiming the lives of two individuals, Anis Awadhiya and Ashwini Costa, in the early hours of May 19. Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar revealed that the teen had been consuming alcohol at a nearby pub prior to the collision, which took place around 2.15 am.
Legal charges have been brought against the minor, including the allegations of rash and negligent driving, as well as causing harm by endangering life under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Maharashtra Motor Vehicle Act. Additionally, the teen has been accused of driving under the influence of alcohol, as per Section 185 of the Motor Vehicle Act.
Following the tragic incident, the father of the teenager, Vishal Agarwal, was apprehended by the Pune Police in Aurangabad. Subsequent investigations led to the arrest of the head of the hospital’s forensics department, Dr. Taware, and the chief medical officer, Dr. Harnor, for their involvement in manipulating crucial evidence.
Moreover, the authorities suspended an inspector and another official from the Yerwada police station due to their negligence in handling the case. The police highlighted a delay in conducting the blood sample test of the teenager, which took place more than eight hours after the accident.
The Pune Police have gathered evidence indicating the teen’s alcohol consumption from CCTV footage and receipts from the establishments where the underage driver drank before the accident. In a recent development, the Juvenile Justice Board of Pune decided to detain the accused minor in an observation home until June 5.
Outrage sparked when the board initially granted bail to the minor with stringent conditions, prompting the police to petition for trying the teenager as an adult. Additionally, the teen’s grandfather, Surendra Agarwal, was arrested for coercing the family’s driver to falsely confess to the accident in exchange for monetary compensation and threats.
