Manu Bhaker Makes History for India at Paris Olympics
In an exciting turn of events at the Paris Olympics 2024, Indian shooter Manu Bhaker has clinched a bronze medal in the women’s 10m air pistol event. This monumental achievement marks a significant milestone as she becomes the first female shooter from India to ever win an Olympic medal.
Manu’s victory is also a proud moment for the nation, as she is the first Indian shooter to win a medal at the Olympics since 2012, when Gagan Narang bagged bronze in London. The event saw stiff competition, but Manu held her nerve to finish with a score of 221.7, trailing behind South Korea’s Kim Yeji and Oh Ye-Jin, who took home silver and gold respectively.
The celebrations have begun on social media, with former cricketer Gautam Gambhir and Union Minister Smriti Z Irani leading the congratulatory messages. Gambhir posted a heartfelt message honoring Manu’s achievement and how she has made the nation proud.
Meanwhile, the day’s competitions are far from over. The Indian women’s archery team, featuring Deepika Kumari, Bhajan Kaur, and Ankita Bhakat, is gearing up to face the Netherlands in the quarter-finals. The pressure is on as they look to advance beyond the quarter-finals, a stage India has never breached in women’s archery before.
In the pool, Srihari Nataraj’s journey ended at the heats of the men’s 100m backstroke, finishing 33rd and unable to qualify for the final. On the tennis courts, Sumit Nagal is fighting hard in his opening match, having lost the first set but currently leading in the second.
In a bright spot for Indian table tennis, Manika Batra has progressed to the next round after defeating Great Britain’s Anna Hursey four games to one. Each win brings more hope and excitement as the Olympics continue to unfold.
As the day continues, the nation will be eagerly watching the performances of Arjun Babuta and Ramita Jindal, who have both qualified for the finals in the men’s and women’s 10m air rifle events respectively. It’s a thrilling time for Indian sports as they continue to chase Olympic glory!
