Marathon Runner Proposes to Girlfriend After Finishing Race in Ottawa
Minutes after completing his first marathon at the Tartan Ottawa International Marathon, Andrew Dupuis made a unique and heartwarming move by proposing to his long-time girlfriend Austyn Roseborough.
The 31-year-old Dupuis, who works as a consultant for Deloitte in London, Ontario, finished the marathon in an impressive time of 2:49.
Roseborough, a 30-year-old MD/PhD student at Western University, also accomplished her first marathon alongside Dupuis.
The couple, together for four years, shares a passion for running and triathlons, with Roseborough having participated in the Long Distance Triathlon World Championships in Denmark in the past.
Prior to the race, Dupuis had purchased the rings months in advance, waiting for the perfect moment to propose to Roseborough.
While the rings were not carried during the 42.2-kilometer run, a designated person was on standby to hand them to Dupuis after he completed the marathon.
Immediately after Roseborough crossed the finish line, Dupuis went down on one knee to pop the question, to which Roseborough responded with a joyous yes.
Roseborough expressed both excitement and fatigue after the surprising proposal, stating that the marathon was a tough challenge to overcome.
Although uncertain about running more marathons in the future, the couple plans to cherish the unforgettable memory of the Ottawa race together.
