Marumo Gallants Set to Sign Veteran Goalkeeper Washington Arubi
Marumo Gallants, who recently made a comeback in the Betway Premiership, are on the verge of signing the experienced goalkeeper Washington Arubi, who is currently a free agent.
After acquiring the league status from Moroka Swallows, Gallants are looking to revamp their squad under the guidance of coach Dan Malesela as they prepare for the new season.
In order to build a strong team, they have released a total of 15 players, including Sbusiso Khumalo and Tshiamo Moshoene, alongside others like Themba Ndlovu and Lerato Ntemane.
Among those 15 departing players are also familiar names like Marvin Skhosana and Cyril Nguessan, as Gallants aim to make significant changes to their lineup.
On a brighter note, they have managed to secure some new signings, including midfielder Phathutshedzo Nange from SuperSport United, who struggled for game time in his previous stint.
The team has also brought in defender Veluyeke Zulu and the rising star Daniel Msendami from Jwaneng Galaxy.
Now, the buzz around the club is that they are close to bringing back goalkeeper Washington Arubi. Sources say that all terms have been finalized and he is already training with the squad.
Arubi, at 38 years of age, is a seasoned goalkeeper who previously played for SuperSport United but found himself as a backup to Ricardo Goss.
Last season, he had an excellent run with Marumo Gallants, especially in the CAF Confederation Cup, earning recognition with the Chairman’s Award for his outstanding performances.
Despite the team’s unfortunate relegation on the last day of the season, Arubi stood out as one of the top players alongside striker Ranga Chivaviro, and there are high hopes for their success in the upcoming Betway Premiership season.
