As of the current announcement, the game’s roster comprises 27 out of an eventual 33 playable Marvel characters. Players can look forward to embodying iconic figures such as Adam Warlock, Black Panther, Captain America, and Doctor Strange, among others. The roster represents a broad spectrum of Marvel’s superhero universe, ensuring a diverse choice for players at launch.
Once the game transitions into Season 1, anticipated to commence in early January 2025, further expansions are planned. These include the introduction of new maps, heroes, Team-Up Abilities, and potentially, innovative game modes. Additionally, seasonal Battle Passes will offer new customization options, including unique costumes and visual enhancements.
To further engage with its audience, Marvel is collaborating to release a series of variant comic book covers inspired by the game. Characters like Spider-Man and Venom will be featured in these variant covers, which are set for release in January 2025. These covers will be illustrated by renowned artist Peach Momoko, known for her work on Marvel’s Demon Days series.
Marvel Rivals is being developed and published by NetEase Games, in collaboration with creative director Guangyun Chen and art director Dino Ma. Despite the company’s established reputation with previous titles like ‘Once Human’ and ‘Harry Potter: Magic Awakened,’ there remains a sense of cautious optimism among gamers awaiting its release.
The hero shooter will be available as a free-to-play game on Windows, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. Its release is timely, aiming to capture the attention of gamers during the holiday season, promising a vibrant and action-packed experience reflective of its Marvel roots.
