Mass. Theater Faces Backlash Over Richard Dreyfuss’ Controversial Remarks During ‘Jaws’ Event
A theater in Beverly, Massachusetts, is under scrutiny following a special screening event for the iconic movie ‘Jaws,’ where actor Richard Dreyfuss made controversial and offensive remarks that sparked outrage among attendees.
The Cabot, a historic theater in Beverly, organized an event titled ‘An Evening with Richard Dreyfuss + Jaws Screening’ on Saturday night, which quickly turned sour due to Dreyfuss’ comments.
Reports from audience members indicated that Dreyfuss delved into topics such as transgender issues, women’s rights, and allegedly made derogatory remarks about his co-star Barbra Streisand during the Q&A session.
The Cabot’s executive director, J. Casey Seward, issued an apology to patrons, acknowledging the distress caused by Dreyfuss’ remarks and emphasizing the theater’s commitment to inclusivity and respect.
The incident has raised concerns over the vetting process for event participants at The Cabot, especially considering Dreyfuss’ past controversial statements regarding diversity and inclusion in the film industry.
Richard Dreyfuss, known for his role as Matt Hooper in ‘Jaws,’ has not publicly responded to the latest backlash over his comments at The Cabot.
‘Jaws,’ a film primarily shot on Martha’s Vineyard, garnered critical acclaim, winning three Academy Awards and earning a nomination for Best Picture.
