Massive Mudslide Closes Teton Pass in Wyoming
Teton Pass in Western Wyoming has been shut down indefinitely after a massive mudslide caused catastrophic damage at milepost 12.8. The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) announced the closure on their official Facebook page, alerting travelers to the significant road failure.
WYDOT crews, in collaboration with Evans Construction contract crews, were initially attempting to construct a detour around the damaged area. However, the relentless force of the mudslide resulted in the complete collapse of the roadway, forcing a full closure of Teton Pass.
Additionally, the mudslide breached the roadway at milepost 15 on Teton Pass, further complicating the situation. Despite the challenging circumstances, WYDOT reported that no personnel were injured during these incidents, and equipment remained undamaged.
Efforts are currently underway to clear the debris and mud from the affected areas. Long-term solutions and alternative routes are being explored as WYDOT assesses the extent of the damage and plans for the road’s restoration.
