Max Verstappen Poised to Secure Fourth F1 World Championship Title
Lando Norris expressed optimism about his chances of delaying Max Verstappen‘s championship win beyond the Las Vegas Grand Prix while emphasizing his determination to race competitively. «I’m here to race,» he stated, underlining that Verstappen’s likely championship victory does not alter his own objectives. The Red Bull frontrunner is on the cusp of securing his fourth world title in Las Vegas if Norris does not outscore him by three points.
In the qualifying rounds leading up to the race, Verstappen achieved a provisional pole position, with Norris starting from the sixth position. This scenario suggests that if the drivers finish in the same order, Verstappen would clinch the championship. «I mean, whether he wins or not tomorrow, for me it’s not going to change anything,» Norris commented, acknowledging Verstappen’s strong position in the standings. «He’s pretty likely to win the championship, but I’m here to race and do my best in every single race I can.»
With only three races left in the season, Norris is the sole driver holding a theoretical chance of overtaking Verstappen. Reflecting on the season, Norris attributed the early races as pivotal in setting Red Bull’s commanding lead. «The [title] race was lost in the first six races of the year. That’s when Max dominated,» he remarked, noting Red Bull’s early advantage.
Meanwhile, the battle between McLaren and Ferrari remains intense, as McLaren leads by 36 points. Norris and his teammate, Oscar Piastri, who qualified eighth, face the challenge of outperforming the Ferrari duo, Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc, who are positioned ahead on the grid. Speaking on McLaren’s strategy for the upcoming race, Norris suggested, «At the minute, that’s what you would say,» concerning whether the race was about damage limitation for McLaren’s title ambitions.
The championship situation is clear: Verstappen maintains a 62-point lead over Norris. With a total of 86 points still attainable this season, including points from upcoming races, Verstappen’s path to securing the title is closely watched. To prevent Verstappen from winning in Las Vegas, Norris must achieve a result that places him three points ahead in the standings.
The Las Vegas Grand Prix, taking place on November 24, presents a critical opportunity for both McLaren and Red Bull. Max Verstappen will ultimately secure his title if he ends the race weekend with at least a 60-point lead over Norris. The specifics of what each racer needs to do highlight the precise and competitive nature of this final stretch of the Formula 1 season.
