Medieval-Themed St George’s Day Festival Draws Huge Crowds in Tamworth
Tamworth’s Castle Grounds hosted a bustling event on Saturday, attracting over 12,000 visitors for the annual St George’s Day festival. The medieval-themed celebration, organized by Tamworth Borough Council, featured an array of exciting activities for the entire family.
Amongst the highlights was the Grand Medieval Joust, a thrilling spectacle that saw knights on horseback engage in jousting competitions. The event drew large crowds in the Castle Grounds arena, with St George himself participating in the action.
A novel addition to this year’s festival was the Community Games, offering attendees the chance to partake in various sporting activities provided by local organizations. The emphasis was on fun and inclusivity, making it a hit with families.
In addition to the jousting and games, visitors enjoyed displays, living history demonstrations, traditional children’s games, and an array of stalls offering refreshments and gifts. The sunny weather added to the festive atmosphere, creating a memorable day for all.
Stephen Gabriel, Chief Executive of Tamworth Borough Council, expressed his delight at the event’s success and the community’s enthusiastic participation. The collaboration with the Community Games highlighted local sports opportunities and promoted physical activity among attendees.
Upcoming events in Tamworth include the Dine ‘N’ Devour Food and Artisan Festival on May 4 and 5, featuring international street food and beverages on the Castle Grounds’ Upper and Lower Lawns. Additionally, outdoor summer theater performances, starting with Julius Caesar on June 9, are open for bookings.
