Melbourne Midfielder Christian Petracca Suffers Severe Injury During Collingwood Clash
Melbourne midfielder Christian Petracca faced a setback after sustaining a significant injury during the recent game against Collingwood at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).
Petracca’s injury occurred during a challenging marking contest towards the end of the first quarter, leading to a series of concerning medical findings.
Initially, it was suspected to be a rib injury. However, Petracca’s pain intensified by half-time, prompting further evaluation and subsequent hospitalization as a precautionary measure.
Subsequent scans unveiled the extent of the damage, with the midfielder diagnosed with four broken ribs, a lacerated spleen, and a minor puncture in his lung.
To manage the injuries, Petracca underwent a procedure to address the spleen laceration and is currently under medical supervision as he recuperates.
The Melbourne Football Club’s General Manager of AFL Performance, Alan Richardson, emphasized that Petracca’s health takes precedence over any on-field responsibilities.
Richardson stated, «Christian’s well-being is our utmost priority at this juncture. We will closely monitor his recovery progress to ensure a complete and optimal healing process before considering his return to active play.»
