X-Men ’97 Creator Fired Amid Controversy
There’s some drama brewing in the world of animation! Beau DeMayo, the creator and head writer of the Disney+ series ‘X-Men '97,’ was fired back in March 2024 for what Marvel describes as ‘egregious misconduct.’
n
DeMayo recently took to social media, claiming that he was stripped of his writing credits for the second season after posting fan art in support of Pride Month. He mentioned that a letter from Marvel informed him about the removal of his credits due to the post.
n
In response, Marvel wasted no time in saying that DeMayo’s claims were false. The studio insists that his firing was linked to an internal investigation that revealed serious issues, leading them to sever all ties with him.
n
Following Marvel’s statement, DeMayo hinted on social media that the truth of the situation would come out soon. He expressed disappointment and referenced a separate legal issue involving Disney, which has added to the overall tension surrounding his departure.

‘X-Men ’97’ premiered earlier this year and quickly gained positive reviews for its storytelling and character depth. Although DeMayo had completed work on both the first and second seasons, the controversy now casts a shadow over the series.

He has also worked on the upcoming movie ‘Blade,’ which is set to release next year, but it’s unclear what this situation means for his future projects.
