Mercedes Announces 2025 Driver Line-Up Featuring Kimi Antonelli and George Russell
Mercedes-AMG Petronas has officially announced its driver line-up for the 2025 Formula 1 season. The team consists of 18-year-old Italian Kimi Antonelli and multiple Grand Prix winner George Russell.
Kimi Antonelli, who is set to make the transition from Formula 2, joins Russell to replace Lewis Hamilton following his departure to Ferrari. Antonelli has rapidly ascended through the junior ranks, achieving significant success in karting and single-seater racing.
Team Principal Toto Wolff expressed enthusiasm about the new pairing, highlighting the blend of experience and youthful talent. He stated, “Our 2025 driver line-up combines experience, talent, youth, and out-and-out raw speed.” Wolff noted that both drivers bring unique strengths that will contribute to the team’s future success.
George Russell, who has been with Mercedes since 2017 and enjoys a successful career including a Grand Prix victory, shared his excitement about partnering with Antonelli. He noted Antonelli’s impressive track record in junior racing and expressed eagerness to support the rookie in his transition to Formula 1.
Antonelli expressed his gratitude towards Mercedes for the opportunity, stating, “Reaching F1 is a dream I’ve had since I was a small boy.” He emphasized his commitment to improving as a driver and delivering strong results for the team.
Markus Schäfer, Non-Executive Chairman of Mercedes-Benz AG, remarked on the exciting era for the team. He expressed confidence in Antonelli’s potential and the promising future he holds as a part of the Mercedes family.
