Michigan’s Colston Loveland Enters Record Books Amidst Concerns Over Game Absence
ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Colston Loveland, a standout tight end for the University of Michigan Wolverines, achieved a significant career milestone during the game against the Northwestern Wildcats on Saturday, November 23, 2024. Loveland set a new record for the most receptions by a tight end in a single season for the Wolverines, surpassing the previous mark of 53 catches held by Bennie Joppru since 2002.
Loveland’s record-breaking moment came with an 11-yard reception in the first quarter, securing his 54th catch of the season. He continued to contribute in the first half, adding to his stats with a total of three receptions for 22 yards and scoring a touchdown in the concluding moments before halftime.
Despite his early performance, concerns arose when Loveland did not return to the field for the second half of the game. According to a report from Jason Avant on the Michigan Sports Network, it was unexpected that Loveland would return to the game, though the specifics surrounding his absence remain undisclosed at this time. «We have yet to receive an official explanation regarding Colston’s absence for the latter part of the match,» Avant reported.
The Wolverines’ performance was impacted by Loveland’s absence, given his considerable contributions to the team’s performance this season. Loveland currently leads the team with 56 receptions for 582 yards and three touchdowns. He is also on track to set additional records for the most yards and touchdowns in a season for a Michigan tight end. He needs only 41 more yards and another touchdown to claim these records as well.
The University of Michigan athletics department has yet to issue a statement on this development. Meanwhile, Loveland’s achievement in breaking the tight end reception record has been celebrated by his coaches and teammates.
