The Michigan Wolverines secured a decisive 94-67 victory over the Miami (Ohio) RedHawks in the opening round of the Fort Myers Tip-Off tournament held at the Crisler Center on Monday night. The win was bolstered by standout performances from Nimari Burnett, who scored a season-high 18 points, and Tre Donaldson, an Auburn transfer who equaled his career high with 16 points.

Under the guidance of new head coach Dusty May, Michigan improved their record to 3-1 overall and an undefeated 3-0 at home. The Wolverines held a narrow 44-36 lead at halftime but initiated the second half with an 8-0 run that set the tone for their dominant finish. Michigan’s offensive prowess was on full display as they shot 58.3% from the field and 48.3% from three-point range.

In addition to Burnett and Donaldson’s contributions, L.J. Cason added 11 points, and Roddy Gayle Jr. chipped in with 10 points and five assists. Danny Wolf narrowly missed a double-double, contributing nine points and nine rebounds.

Miami (Ohio), now at a 2-2 record, was led by Eian Elmer with 14 points, while Kam Craft and Peter Suder scored 13 and 12 points, respectively. Despite hitting only 34.4% of their three-point attempts, the RedHawks managed to convert 11 out of 32 shots from beyond the arc.

Michigan’s commanding performance also included a significant rebounding advantage, outrebounding Miami 43-23. The Wolverines also overcame early turnover issues, having nine turnovers in the first 11 minutes but reducing this to three by the end of the first half.

The Wolverines will conclude their three-game homestand with a matchup against Tarleton State on Thursday. Meanwhile, Miami (Ohio) will face Siena in the Palms Division of the tournament.
