Dirty Boxing’s first event, which took place this past weekend, initially faced challenges as Duane Crespo, a scheduled fighter, withdrew from the event on the day of the fight for undisclosed reasons. Perry, who has been enjoying some downtime ahead of his anticipated return to the Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship (BKFC) ring, decided to headline the event against Romero.

Perry announced the change via Instagram, stating, «Sorry guys, our main event: Yoel Romero, his opponent canceled. But I’m going to step in on short notice and face him tonight for the heavyweight main event showdown.» The announcement came just hours before the event took place.

The promotion, Dirty Boxing, which features bouts comprising three-minute, three-round fights with only punches and elbows allowed, decided not to stream the fights live. Instead, the matches will be released on their online platforms the following day. Despite this delayed release, the news of Perry stepping in became a highlight of the event, drawing significant attention from the combat sports community.

Romero, aged 47, known for his fierce reputation in mixed martial arts, made his return after previously defeating former UFC title challenger Thiago Santos on the PFL vs. Bellator card. Perry, who has not fought at BKFC since April, is known for his unbeaten record in bare-knuckle fighting, which includes victories over former UFC champions and notable fighters like Luke Rockhold and Eddie Alvarez.
