Mike Trout Faces Another Surgery, Ending His Season
Mike Trout, the star player for the Los Angeles Angels, has announced that he will undergo a second surgery for a torn meniscus in his left knee. This news comes after he has already been sidelined for most of the season, and unfortunately, it means his 2024 campaign is officially over.
Trout shared his disappointment on Thursday after an MRI revealed the new tear. He had previously undergone surgery on May 3 for the same injury and had been working hard to make a comeback this season. In his own words, he described the news as ‘devastating’ and mentioned how much he valued playing and competing.
In his limited time on the field this season, Trout played in just 29 games, batting .220 and hitting 10 home runs. The Angels are currently struggling, sitting fourth in the AL West with little hope of making it to the playoffs.
Angels manager Ron Washington expressed support and optimism for Trout, emphasizing the importance of getting the player healthy. He stated that Trout can focus on healing and preparing for next season.
Trout has encountered a series of injuries over the past few years. He’s yet to play more than 119 games in any of the last five seasons, which is concerning for a player of his caliber. Injuries have limited his effectiveness, and this latest setback is just one of many over recent years.
The Angels’ General Manager, Perry Minasian, expressed his own heartbreak over the situation. He assured fans that Trout’s passion for the team and his commitment to coming back strong remain intact.
As Trout wraps up the sixth year of his massive 12-year, $426.5 million contract, the team and its fans remain hopeful for his return. However, the history of injuries raises questions about what the future holds for the star slugger.
