Minnesota Wild Prepare for Face-Off Against Edmonton Oilers
EDMONTON, AB — The Minnesota Wild are set to face off against the Edmonton Oilers at Rogers Place on Thursday night. This marks the second game in the Wild’s three-game road trip, following a 4-2 victory against the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday night.
As of now, the Minnesota Wild hold a record of 11-3-3, placing them second in the Central Division, while the Edmonton Oilers have a record of 10-8-2, ranking fourth in the Pacific Division. The Wild and Oilers have already encountered each other three times in the current 2023-24 series, with Minnesota having a slight edge with a 2-1-0 record.
Throughout the season so far, Minnesota has proven to be a tough competitor with an impressive average of 3.39 goals per game while limiting opponents to just 2.33 goals per game. «Our team defense has been critical in securing these wins,» Wild head coach Dean Evason stated earlier this week.
For the Oilers, injuries have become a concern. Winger Viktor Arvidsson and Zach Hyman are both sidelined due to injuries, with their absence noticeable in the team’s recent performances. «It’s better to recover fully now rather than risk long-term repercussions,» said Oilers head coach Kris Knoblauch.
Newly acquired forward Kasperi Kapanen, claimed off waivers from the St. Louis Blues, is set to make his debut with the Oilers. Kapanen expressed his readiness: «I’m excited for the opportunity. Just trying to be some sort of factor out there to help this team win.»
Also of note, Edmonton will be without defenceman Darnell Nurse, who is recovering from an upper-body injury sustained in a game against the Toronto Maple Leafs. Ryan Reaves of the Maple Leafs, responsible for the hit, has been suspended for five games by the NHL.
This upcoming game promises to be a significant challenge for the Oilers, especially without some key players, as they face a Wild team in top form. Fans and analysts alike are anticipating a competitive match-up.
