Mixed Weather Week Ahead for Metro Vancouver with Rain and Temperature Fluctuations
Metro Vancouver is preparing for a week of mixed weather conditions with rain and temperature fluctuations, according to Environment Canada.
The forecast indicates heavy rainfall of up to 50 millimetres, with the North Shore and areas like Coquitlam and Maple Ridge expected to experience the brunt of the showers.
An Environment Canada rainfall warning issued on Tuesday morning stated that a frontal system is bringing persistent rain to several regions of Metro Vancouver, which is likely to continue throughout the day and into the night, easing up by early Wednesday morning.
Temperatures in Vancouver will remain below average, with a high of 12 C and a low of 8 C, significantly lower than the May 21 average of 17 C for highs and 9 C for lows.
Drivers traveling through mountain highway passes in southern B.C. have been cautioned to anticipate snowfall on Tuesday, with up to four centimetres expected to accumulate before Wednesday morning. Special weather statements have been issued for routes like the Coquihalla Highway, the Okanagan Connector, and several others as an upper trough of low pressure brings cooler temperatures to the southern interior of B.C.
On the flip side of the province, northeastern B.C. is likely to experience poor air quality due to wildfire smoke, impacting areas where wildfires have caused evacuations. Environment Canada advises vulnerable groups such as seniors, children, and individuals with health conditions to take precautions as smoky skies could persist for up to 48 hours.
