However, Philadelphia Phillies ace Zack Wheeler poses a significant challenge with a 2.57 ERA over 200 innings and a leading WHIP of 0.96, which demonstrates his dominance in the league. Also in the running is Paul Skenes from the Pittsburgh Pirates, making the competition fierce.

Sale has historically finished between second and sixth in the Cy Young voting from 2012 through 2018, having been the runner-up to Corey Kluber in 2017. His inclusion in the current lineup of nominees continues to reflect his extensive career achievements.
