Modi Cabinet 3.0: Leadership Continuity Marks Allocation of Portfolios in New Indian Government
Prime Minister Narendra Modi was sworn in for a third consecutive term by President Droupadi Murmu, marking a historic achievement that aligns him with the likes of Jawaharlal Nehru. The ceremony began with Modi paying homage to Mahatma Gandhi, Sadaiv Atal, and soldiers at the National War Memorial. The event saw a total of 72 ministers taking oath, including key figures from the BJP and coalition partners.
In a move signifying continuity, PM Modi has allocated portfolios to his Cabinet members, with established leaders receiving critical ministries. Amit Shah retains the Home Ministry, Rajnath Singh the Defence Ministry, Nirmala Sitharaman the Finance Ministry, S Jaishankar the External Affairs Ministry, and Nitin Gadkari the Road and Highways Ministry. Additionally, significant positions like Agriculture, Panchayati Raj, and Aviation have been assigned to Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Lalan Singh, and Rammohan Naidu respectively.
Among the new faces in Modi’s 3.0 Cabinet are leaders like Manohar Lal Khattar, HD Kumaraswamy, and JP Nadda, who will now helm key ministerial positions. The 72-member strong Council of Ministers features representatives from NDA partners like TDP, JDU, LJP, and Shiv Sena, ensuring a diverse political representation.
Key first-time ministers from allied parties include Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu and Chandrasekhar Pemmasani from TDP, Lalan Singh and Ram Nath Thakur from JDU, and others. The addition of established regional leaders like these marks a strategic political move aimed at broadening the government’s reach and inclusivity.
Shivraj Singh Chouhan, a veteran five-time MP from Vidisha, and HD Kumaraswamy, having secured a victory from Mandya, bring their regional expertise to the national forefront. The induction of these leaders, with their diverse backgrounds and experiences, is expected to enrich the policy-making and governance processes under PM Modi’s leadership.
