Mohan Charan Majhi Sworn In As Odisha's New Chief Minister

Mohan Charan Majhi, a four-time MLA with roots in the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, has been announced as the new Chief Minister of Odisha, ending Naveen Patnaik‘s 24-year reign.

The 52-year-old tribal leader hails from the Santali tribe in Odisha, specifically from Raikala village in the Keonjhar district.

He is set to be sworn in as Odisha’s first BJP Chief Minister on June 12, marking a significant political shift in the state.

Majhi’s political journey began in 2000 when he was first elected to the Odisha Legislative Assembly and has since served as an MLA multiple times.

Throughout his career, he has demonstrated a commitment to tribal causes and has been a vocal advocate for the rights of indigenous communities in Odisha.

As a prominent member of the BJP, Majhi has introduced several significant private member’s Bills during his tenure, addressing issues such as whistleblowers’ protection, women’s empowerment, and groundwater conservation.

His leadership roles within the BJP, including serving as the Government Deputy Chief Whip and Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee, have prepared him for the responsibilities of leading the state.

Majhi’s focus on addressing corruption in the mining sector, particularly in the utilization of funds under the District Mineral Foundation, has earned him respect among his constituents and colleagues.

His dedication to public service and empathy for the people of Odisha have contributed to his success as a politician and community leader.
