Mokwena's Uncertain Future At Mamelodi Sundowns: Contract Negotiations Underway

Mamelodi Sundowns and head coach Rulani Mokwena are currently engaged in negotiations to terminate his contract, following the coach’s unexpected decision to part ways with the club, sources close to the situation have disclosed.

Speculation surrounding Mokwena’s future at Mamelodi Sundowns intensified when reports surfaced indicating his readiness to depart, with sources now confirming that he has communicated his wish to leave to the club. However, an official resignation letter from Mokwena is still pending.

Despite having three years left on his contract after renewing it last year, Mokwena and Flemming Berg, the Danish sporting director at Sundowns, reportedly reached an impasse, leading to an irreconcilable working relationship.

Mokwena’s absence from training sessions has further solidified his departure intentions, with his agent, Steve Kapeluschnik, in talks with the club to finalize the terms of separation and potential compensation.

The impending exit of Mokwena, a key figure in Sundowns’ recent successes, is likely to have significant repercussions on the club’s preseason preparations and technical staff, potentially jeopardizing their planned training camp in Austria.

Despite the uncertainty, sources believe that Manqoba Mngqithi, a seasoned coach who has previously taken on the head coaching role, will be able to provide stability to the team amidst Mokwena’s departure.

As negotiations continue, the formal announcement of Mokwena’s exit is expected to follow the finalization of the termination agreement between the coach and the club.
