Montreal Alouettes Showcase Dominance in Victory Against Ottawa Redblacks
The Montreal Alouettes have solidified their worth, boasting a championship title, two victories on the road out West to kick off the season, and a sold-out crowd of 23,035 spectators for their home opener. However, they understand the importance of continuously improving, despite already proving themselves.
As the second quarter of Thursday night’s match between the Alouettes and the Ottawa Redblacks continued, the tone was set early on with an impressive performance from the Alouettes, ultimately leading to a commanding 47-21 victory.
Under the leadership of head coach Jason Maas, the Alouettes returned home with a flawless 2-0 record after wins in Winnipeg and Edmonton, facing off against the seemingly lesser-equipped Ottawa team.
The Montreal players wasted no time in establishing their dominance, with impressive plays by Cody Fajardo, Caleb Evans, Tyrice Beverette, and successful field goals by David Côté, gradually overwhelming their opponents.
The porous Ottawa defense provided ample opportunities for Fajardo and the Alouettes offense to shine, with Fajardo completing 20 of his 22 passes in the first two quarters alone, amassing 393 yards by the end of the game.
Tyson Philpot emerged as a standout receiver for the Alouettes, showcasing his reliability and chemistry with Fajardo, while Reggie White Jr also made a significant impact in his 2024 season debut.
The Alouettes’ stellar defense continued to impress, with standout performances from Marc-Antoine Dequoy, Nafees Lyon, and Tyrice Beverette, who had a stellar game including an interception, a quarterback sack, and a fumble recovery.
Despite a brief lapse in the third quarter, where the Alouettes were outscored 11-0, head coach Maas emphasized the need for improvement even in victory, as they prepare to face the Toronto Argonauts in their next fixture.
With a perfect 3-0 record, the Alouettes stand atop the league rankings, demonstrating their championship caliber once again and leaving their fans with a sense of pride and excitement for what lies ahead.
The match concluded with a standing ovation from the supporters, encapsulating the emotional journey of the game set to the tune of John Denver‘s ‘Take Me Home, Country Roads‘.
