Morgan Freeman Reveals Favorite Films Featuring Clint Eastwood and Others
Clint Eastwood may have appeared in 14 films after his celebrated directorial effort in «Unforgiven,» yet that film remains a poignant farewell to the genre that dominated his acting career. In «Unforgiven,» Eastwood starred as Will Munny, a worn-down gunman making a valiant last stand, a role often praised as one of his finest. However, for co-star Morgan Freeman, another performance from Eastwood’s prolific career stands out.
In an interview conducted in 2023, Morgan Freeman, a five-time Oscar nominee who won for his role in «Million Dollar Baby» directed by Eastwood, revealed his favorite films. Among his selections was Eastwood’s 1976 western «The Outlaw Josey Wales.» In this film, Eastwood portrayed the eponymous character, a hardened gunslinger marked for retribution. Freeman expressed affection for this work, stating, «I like all movies with Clint, but ‘The Outlaw Josey Wales’ is one I can’t pass up. If I’m scrolling through and I come across it, I’ve got to watch it.»
Freeman’s fondness for the Western genre also includes Fred Zinnemann’s classic «High Noon» from 1952. Furthermore, he holds in high regard John Huston’s 1956 adaptation of «Moby Dick,» praising Gregory Peck‘s portrayal as outstanding and perfectly aligned with his vision from reading the novel.
The actor’s list of favorites also comprises Ang Lee‘s «Life of Pi» and Baz Luhrmann‘s «Moulin Rouge!»—the latter being notably surprising considering Freeman has not traditionally participated in musicals. Freeman praised «Moulin Rouge!» describing it as «probably one of the best overall conceived and executed films,» highlighting its cinematography, acting, singing, and dancing as stellar.
Freeman’s choices reflect a diverse appreciation for cinema that spans various genres and styles, offering insight into the preferences of one of Hollywood’s most revered actors.
