Mother’s Day Celebrations Across the Rio Grande Valley
As Mother’s Day approaches, mothers across the Rio Grande Valley are gearing up for a weekend of festivities in Mexico and other Latin American countries.
Mother’s Day, celebrated on May 10th in many cities, pays tribute to all mothers for their love and dedication.
One such celebration is set to take place at El Tule Center in Edinburg. Mothers and children are invited to enjoy an afternoon filled with activities at the ‘Mom and Me’ event, now in its second year.
Last year, over 80 mothers participated, prompting this year’s celebration to be held on Friday ahead of Mother’s Day.
On the other hand, countries like Mexico, El Salvador, and Guatemala have left Sunday open for mothers to celebrate at home with their loved ones.
‘So we have many activities this year – music, games, free food for mom – a lot more than last year,’ noted Anthony Dávila, the coordinator of Edinburg’s Parks and Recreation Program.
The ‘Mom and Me’ event will kick off at 4 pm in Edinburg. Meanwhile, Pharr will also host a Mother’s Day celebration on Friday titled ‘A Night Under the Stars.’
The evening will feature a free concert starting at 7:30 pm at the Pharr Amphitheater on Nolana Street.
