Motherwell’s Steady Start to the Season
Motherwell kicked off their season with a 0-0 draw against Ross County in a match that left fans wanting more excitement. The game was held at Fir Park on Saturday, August 3, 2024, and saw both teams struggling to find the back of the net despite some promising moments.
Manager Stuart Kettlewell made only one change to his lineup, opting for Moses Ebiye to partner Zach Robinson up front. With new signing Apostolos Stamatelopoulos waiting in the wings, the home side was eager to secure their first win of the season.
Both teams had their share of chances, but it was Motherwell who looked most likely to score early on. Ewan Wilson made a great run down the wing and set up Ebiye, whose shot was expertly saved by County’s Ross Laidlaw.
The visitors, aiming to bounce back from a heavy defeat earlier in the year, tested Motherwell’s new goalkeeper Ashton Oxborough late in the first half. Oxborough, getting his first Premier League start, showed his skills with a brilliant save from Ronan Hale’s free kick.
As the match progressed, frustrations grew, and despite several attempts from both sides, including a near miss by Dan Casey, the tie remained goalless. Motherwell’s efforts to breakthrough were thwarted by a disciplined Ross County defense.
In other news, Motherwell FC recently announced a new partnership with DX Home Improvements, adding them as the men’s sleeve sponsor for the next two years. The local company expressed excitement about supporting the team and contributing to the community.
Additionally, young player Lennon Miller was recognized as the G4 Claims Player of the Month for July, highlighting his impressive performances during the pre-season, including scoring in crucial moments.
With the first game of the season behind them, attention now turns to Motherwell’s next challenge against Kilmarnock in the Premier Sports Cup.
