Mpho Morolane Resigns from EFF, Joins MK Party
Mpho Morolane, the former president of the EFF Student Command, has officially announced his resignation from the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) party. This decision comes as Morolane joins the MK Party on the very day he submitted his resignation letter.
The timing of Morolane’s departure raises questions about his alignment with the EFF’s current direction. Just weeks prior, Floyd Shivambu, a founding member and former Deputy President of the EFF, left the party to join the MK Party, suggesting a shifting landscape within the organization.
In welcoming Morolane to the MK Party, Shivambu took to social media platform X to express his support, stating, ‘You’ve always been on the side of the people.’ Morolane’s transition marks a significant moment, as he becomes the second member of the EFF’s central command team to depart in recent weeks.
This move follows Morolane’s earlier efforts to mobilize the EFF towards appointing a new secretary-general. His resignation from the party that has been a part of his life for nearly a decade highlights underlying tensions and differing views on leadership within the EFF.
During his tenure, Morolane held various key roles, including being the inaugural president of the EFF Student Command and a member of the party’s “war council.” He recently expressed his belief that Mbuyiseni Ndlozi would be the best candidate to lead the party in the upcoming local government elections.
In a heartfelt letter addressed to Marshall Dlamini, the current party leader, Morolane articulated the personal challenges he encountered, particularly regarding decisions made by the EFF’s upper structures. He conveyed mixed feelings about his decision to leave, describing it as an emotional upheaval.
Morolane also acknowledged the valuable experiences gained during his time with the EFF and expressed hope that his departure would be respected. He concluded his letter with the sentiment that after every storm comes calm, reflecting his hopes for a unified pursuit of economic freedom and land return.
