MultiChoice Reports Significant Growth in DStv Stream Subscribers Following Rebranding

MultiChoice, the leading South African video entertainment company, released its annual report for the fiscal year ending on March 31, 2024. The report highlighted a remarkable surge in subscriber numbers for its streaming service – DStv Stream, post its rebranding from DStv Now in July 2023.

The company reported an impressive 139% increase in active users on the DStv Stream platform, with over 90% of these users being new additions to the service. This growth signifies a positive response to the rebranding efforts and the overall enhancement of the streaming experience provided by MultiChoice.

One of the key developments introduced by MultiChoice was the ‘Extra Stream‘ feature, designed to allow subscribers to simultaneously stream DStv content on up to two devices. This unique offering, exclusively available on mobile devices, has resulted in a notable 13% rise in subscribers since its launch.

Moreover, as part of its strategic diversification, MultiChoice unveiled a streaming-only package for its DStv EasyView bouquet, priced at just US$2 per month. However, this particular option does not support multiple concurrent streams, unlike the ‘Extra Stream’ feature.

Following the introduction of these new features, MultiChoice made a decision to restrict simultaneous online streaming to one device, a move that was initially met with some criticism from existing subscribers. Despite some backlash and concerns raised, the company moved forward with the changes, leading to a few subscribers contemplating the cancellation of their subscriptions.

It’s important to note that the decision to limit streaming to one device at a time is more stringent compared to policies observed by other major streaming services in the industry. This move reflects MultiChoice’s commitment to providing a comprehensive and competitive streaming experience for its subscribers, while constantly innovating to meet evolving consumer needs.
