Mumbai Witnesses Mixed Turnout in Final Phase of Lok Sabha Elections
Mumbai witnessed a varied voter turnout in the final phase of the Lok Sabha elections in Maharashtra. With low participation in Mumbai South and higher figures in areas like Mumbai North, the turnout painted a diverse picture.
In Mumbai South, only 47.70% of voters exercised their franchise, reflecting a trend of lower engagement in this constituency. Complaints of missing names and long queues were reported, adding to the challenges faced by voters.
Seniors like 112-year-old Kanchanban Nandakishor Badshah cast their votes, showcasing dedication to the electoral process. However, issues with the polling setup, including the absence of separate queues for seniors, hindered a seamless voting experience.
Political leaders like Uddhav Thackeray and Priyanka Chaturvedi raised concerns about the voting process being deliberately slowed down, pointing towards areas where delays were observed.
Notable personalities from the entertainment industry, including Amitabh Bachchan, Aamir Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, and others, made their way to the polling booths, emphasizing the importance of civic participation.
In the battle for Mumbai North, figures like Piyush Goyal and Bhushan Patil were in contention, with a voter turnout of 55.21%. Areas like Charkop and Borivali saw high participation, showcasing a keen interest in the electoral proceedings.
The constituencies of Mumbai North Central and Mumbai North West also saw moderate turnouts, with 51.42% and 53.67% respectively. Prominent figures like Ujjwal Nikam and Varsha Gaikwad were part of the electoral contest.
The sultry weather and long queues at polling stations challenged voters’ patience, with some opting to leave without casting their votes due to the wait times. The Election Commission faced criticism for the perceived slow pace of the voting process.
Overall, the final phase of elections in Mumbai encapsulated a mix of voter enthusiasm, operational challenges, and the presence of influential figures in the democratic exercise.
