The beloved Muppets characters, including Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy, have been given a new home at Disney's Hollywood Studios. The theme park announced that it will shutter the existing Muppet*Vision 3D film attraction as part of a realignment that will see The Muppets take over the iconic Rock 'n' Roller Coaster ride, formerly themed around Aerosmith. This development was revealed in a post on the Disney Parks Blog earlier this year.

The existing Muppet*Vision 3D show, which is a piece of Disneyland history as Jim Henson‘s last project before his death, will close to make way for a new attraction celebrating The Muppets. The film from the Muppet*Vision 3D show has already been digitized and will be preserved for the future, according to Disney.

In the newly reimagined Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster ride, Muppets characters will team up with music stars at a fictional music festival, which Disney describes as a «rockin’ music festival.» The attraction will be significant as it marks the first instance where Muppets characters are the main focus of a Disney ride.

Additionally, the Sunset Boulevard area of the park will feature a Muppets-themed merchandise store, replacing the Rock Around the Shop gift store. The change comes after the closure of the Stage 1 Company Store in 2020, which sold Muppets merchandise.

While specific dates for these changes have not been disclosed, Disney assured fans that there would be ample opportunity to enjoy the current rides before their closure. The announcement comes amid broader changes at the park, including plans for a new Monsters, Inc. themed area that will feature various attractions like a suspended roller coaster and expanded dining and shopping experiences.

It’s also notable that the announcement follows scrutiny faced by Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler, contributing to the decision to retheme the attraction at Disney World. In Paris, the version of the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster was closed in 2019, making way for another project.

Details on the full extent of the transformation and the new ride’s debut will be shared in upcoming communications from Disney. This move is part of Disney’s ongoing efforts to continuously update and enhance guest experiences at their theme parks.
