In commemoration of this year’s Children's Day, the National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA) has reiterated the urgency of ending mother-to-child transmission of HIV in Nigeria. Dr. Temitope Ilori, the director-general of NACA, emphasized the need to protect children from preventable diseases, particularly HIV, on this special day dedicated to celebrating the nation’s youth.
Dr. Ilori highlighted the progress made in reducing the rate of mother-to-child transmission of HIV while acknowledging the ongoing challenges that must be addressed. She underscored the importance of providing pregnant women living with HIV the necessary care and treatment to prevent transmission to their children.
She reiterated NACA’s commitment to safeguarding the health and well-being of every child by strengthening Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission (PMTCT) services. Dr. Ilori emphasized the collective effort required from government agencies, healthcare providers, civil society organizations, and communities to eliminate mother-to-child transmission of HIV in Nigeria.
