Nada Hafez Competes in Olympics While Seven Months Pregnant
In a remarkable turn of events at the Paris 2024 Olympics, Egyptian fencer Nada Hafez announced that she was competing while seven months pregnant. This revelation came shortly after her participation in the first round of the women’s fencing competition.
Hafez faced off against her competitor from the USA and managed to secure a victory, proceeding to the round of 16 before being knocked out by a fencer from the Republic of Korea.
Taking to Instagram, Hafez shared her news with pride, stating, “What appears to you as two players on the podium, they were actually three! It was me, my competitor, & my yet-to-come to our world, little baby!”
She continued to express the emotional and physical challenges she encountered throughout her pregnancy while balancing the demands of sports. “The rollercoaster of pregnancy is tough on its own, but having to fight to keep the balance of life & sports was nothing short of strenuous, however worth it,” Hafez wrote.
Hafez’s heartfelt post highlighted the support she received from her family and husband, demonstrating the importance of a solid support system during such a demanding time. She proudly stated, “This specific Olympics was different; Three times *Olympian* but this time carrying a little Olympian one!”
In a bid to support parent athletes, the Paris 2024 Organising Committee introduced a nursery at the Olympic village. This initiative aims to help athletes balance their competition commitments while still being available for their young children.
Should she choose to compete again in 2028, Hafez will have access to these facilities, ensuring that she can continue to pursue her passion while also nurturing her growing family.
