Narendra Modi Resigns As Prime Minister, Likely To Take Oath For Third Term On June 8

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has officially submitted his resignation to President Droupadi Murmu, following the recommendation of the Union Council of Ministers for the dissolution of the 17th Lok Sabha. The President has accepted the resignation and requested PM Modi and his Council of Ministers to remain in office until the new government is formed.

Modi is anticipated to be sworn in for a remarkable third consecutive term on the evening of June 8, as sources have conveyed. The ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) secured 292 seats, just surpassing the majority threshold, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) falling short of an individual majority.

The NDA, facilitated by key allies like JD(U), TDP, and others, is expected to meet to discuss the details of government formation, acknowledging Modi’s impending third term. Nitish Kumar, N. Chandrababu Naidu, and other top leaders are set to join the meeting to congratulate PM Modi and strategize the composition of the new government.

While the BJP has clinched 240 seats, relying on its allies such as JD(U), Shiv Sena, and LJP, the coalition holds a comfortable majority in the 543-member Lok Sabha. The BJP’s allies, including TDP, JD(U), Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena, and Chirag Paswan‘s LJP, play a pivotal role in shaping the new government.
