Joe Biden G20 Summit Brazil 2024

President Joe Biden faced renewed criticism following his appearance at the G20 summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where he largely avoided engaging with the press. As reported by The Washington Post, during his visit, the President was frequently seen sidestepping reporters despite their persistent attempts to question him. One media member resorted to writing questions on a large notepad to catch Biden’s attention as he boarded Air Force One.

Nate Silver, a prominent political analyst and founder of FiveThirtyEight, has been vocal about his concerns regarding President Biden’s capacity to fulfill presidential duties in the final weeks of his term. Silver, via social media, questioned Biden’s competency, stating, «Is there any particular reason to assume Biden is competent to be president right now? It’s a very difficult job.» He further suggested that Biden resign and allow Vice President Kamala Harris to assume the presidency temporarily.

The issue came to the fore following a foreign policy action where the Biden administration sanctioned the usage of long-range missiles by Ukraine against Russia. This move led to heightened tensions, with Russian President Vladimir Putin cautioning against potential nuclear responses.

In the months leading up to the election, Silver consistently expressed skepticism about Biden’s leadership abilities, underscoring what he described as a lack of command. He suggested that Democrats might face significant pressure to compel Biden to resign before the end of his term.

Political analysts have noted Biden’s declining approval ratings, including a report that it hit an all-time low of 37.4%. Silver mentioned that Biden’s stepping down earlier could have allowed the Democrats to field a different candidate, creating a broader primary process.

Fox News contributor Timothy H.J. Nerozzi and associate editor Lindsay Kornick documented these developments, with stories detailing Silver’s critiques of Biden’s presidency and the challenges facing the Democratic party as they navigate this period.
