National Security Advisor Ajit Doval Appointed For Third Consecutive Term

India‘s National Security Advisor Ajit Doval has been appointed for the third consecutive term. Doval will continue in his role as the National Security Advisor (NSA) while PK Mishra has been reappointed as the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Amit Khare and Tarun Kapoor, both former IAS officers, will also continue as advisors to the Prime Minister.

This reappointment comes into effect starting June 10, 2024. Doval, a 1968 batch IPS officer, is known for his expertise in counterterrorism and nuclear matters. Mishra, a retired officer from the 1972 batch, who retired as the agriculture secretary of India, has been serving alongside Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the past two terms. Mishra and Doval are both considered as two of the Prime Minister’s most trusted aides, having been associated with him even before he became the Prime Minister.

Doval has experience working as the operational chief in Punjab for the IB and as the Additional Director in Kashmir. His experience in these sensitive areas gives him insight into understanding Pakistan’s designs in both realms. Doval has significant experience in dealing with the situation in Pakistan, Afghanistan, the Middle East, and relations with countries in those regions.

In his third term in the Modi government, Ajit Doval, as the NSA, is set to participate along with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the G7 Summit in Italy on Thursday, June 13. Doval’s assignment is proof of the confidence Prime Minister Modi has bestowed upon him in tackling national security matters and international relations.
