Nayanthara’s Revealing Documentary Sheds Light on Personal and Professional Struggles
The recent release of the Netflix documentary «Nayanthara: Beyond The Fairytale» has sparked considerable public interest in the personal and professional life of acclaimed actress Nayanthara. This documentary offers an intimate glimpse into the life of the actress, who is renowned not just for her acting prowess but also for maintaining a tight guard over her personal affairs.
Featuring various notable figures such as Nagarjuna and Taapsee Pannu, the documentary explores various facets of Nayanthara’s career and personal life. Amidst this exploration, Nagarjuna, a respected actor and Nayanthara’s co-star in the Telugu film «Boss» (2006), shared insights regarding Nayanthara’s past romantic relationships. He recalled a particularly challenging period during the shooting of a film abroad, where her mood would shift dramatically upon receiving phone calls, leading him to question her choice in relationships.
Nayanthara, who has often been reticent about her private life, opened up about a significant relationship that impacted her career. She admitted that her first major relationship was not so much about love as it was about trust, a sentiment she believes is often misunderstood by the public. «It broke me when people assumed stories about it. Till today, no one has asked any of the boys what happened,» Nayanthara revealed.
Her career took a drastic turn during her second relationship, where she was advised to leave the film industry, a decision she now reflects on in the documentary. She candidly confessed, «It wasn’t like I had an option. I was told to leave cinema, and I agreed.» This period of hiatus lasted for about two years starting in 2011, during which her then-partner, filmmaker Prabhu Deva, faced familial pressure that contributed to the end of their relationship.
The documentary not only chronicles these personal challenges but also highlights her comeback, a return to cinema that marked a new chapter of success, culminating in her Bollywood debut with «Jawan» in 2023. Her comeback path was importantly encouraged by offers from industry peers, like Nagarjuna, while director Sathyan Anthikkad, who had launched her career, played a supporting role by simply being there to listen during her transitional phase back into acting.
Nayanthara’s narrative is also marked by her marriage to filmmaker Vignes Shivn, with whom she has two children. Her journey, as depicted in «Nayanthara: Beyond The Fairytale,» is a story of resilience and resurgence, underscoring her evolution both as an artist and an individual.
