The NCAA has announced comprehensive details regarding the 2024 Division I field hockey championship, which features a total of 18 teams competing for the title. The selection comprised ten teams who secured automatic qualifications through conference championships, while the additional eight teams were chosen at-large by the Division I Field Hockey Committee.

The tournament commenced with two opening-round games on Wednesday, November 13th. The subsequent first and second-round matches took place on November 15th and 17th, respectively. The semifinals and the national championship game are set to occur from November 22nd to 24th at Phyllis Ocker Field in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Historical records of the championship reveal that North Carolina has dominated in recent years, capturing five of the last six titles, including victories over the past two seasons. In 2023, North Carolina clinched the championship with a close 2-1 win against Northwestern, under the guidance of coach Erin Matson.

The tournament not only showcases top-tier university teams but also highlights the talents of the nation’s leading field hockey coaches. Karen Shelton has prominently featured in the championships’ history, having led North Carolina to several victories, including an unbeaten 23-0 season in 2019 where her team defeated Princeton in the final.

Phyllis Ocker Field, renowned for hosting field hockey events, provides an ideal venue for the culmination of this prestigious college tournament, offering fans and participants a scenic and spirited setting for high-stakes competition.
