Neeraj Chopra Achieves Season Best at Lausanne Diamond League 2024
Neeraj Chopra, the renowned Indian javelin thrower, made headlines at the 2024 Lausanne Diamond League by recording a season best throw of 89.49 metres. This remarkable achievement occurred during his sixth and final attempt on August 23, 2024, according to Indian time.
Chopra began the competition with a modest throw of 82.10 metres in his first attempt, placing him in a challenging fourth position initially. He improved his performance with a better throw of 83.21 metres but remained in fourth place until he managed a throw of 85.58 metres, propelling him to third place. Ultimately, his impressive final throw secured him the second position in the event.
In the same competition, Grenada’s Anderson Peters showcased his exceptional skills by achieving a remarkable throw of 90.61 metres and finishing in first place. Peters, a two-time world champion and bronze medallist from the Paris Olympics, consistently led throughout the competition. Germany’s Julian Weber came in third with a throw of 87.08 metres.
Chopra’s latest performance contributes to his impressive career statistics, notably his personal best throw of 89.94 metres achieved during the Stockholm Diamond League in 2022. He has previously recorded throws above 89 metres at significant events such as the Paris 2024 Olympics, where he threw 89.34 metres in the qualification round and 89.45 metres in the finals.
Looking ahead, Neeraj Chopra is scheduled to compete at the Zurich Diamond League on Thursday, September 5, 2024, as he continues to aspire to surpass the coveted 90-metre mark in javelin throwing.
